Palermo is a city of Southern Italy, the capital of both the autonomous region of Sicily and the Metropolitan City of Palermo. Being Sicily’s administrative capital, Palermo is a centre for much of the region’s finance, tourism and commerce. The city currently hosts an international airport and Palermo’s economic growth over the years has brought the opening of many new businesses. The economy mainly relies on tourism and services, but also has commerce, shipbuilding and agriculture. The population of Palermo urban area is estimated to be 855,285, while its metropolitan area is the fifth most populated in Italy with around 1.2 million people.
After the visit of the Secretariat, Xarxa FP Executive Committee will review Palermo’s candidature and will invite the Italian city to present its candidature at the next General Assembly of the Association, which will take place next 15th of February 2018 in Zwolle (The Netherlands).
