More than 50 VET students, European educators and Xarxa FP representatives came together in Viborg to turn sustainability into action, exchange ideas and explore innovative solutions for the future.

On 13–14 October, Viborg (Denmark) became a meeting point for European cooperation, innovation and sustainable education. Hosted by Xarxa FP member institutions Mercantec and Asmildkloster Agricultural College, the two-day programme combined strategic discussions at association level with hands-on learning experiences involving more than 50 students from Xarxa FP member institutions.

56th Xarxa FP Executive Committee: Shaping the Network’s Future

The programme also marked an important milestone for the association: the 56th Xarxa FP Executive Committee meeting, held at Mercantec on 14 October. Bringing together members of the association’s governing body, the meeting addressed key organisational and strategic priorities, reinforcing the network’s commitment to continued development and stronger European cooperation.

Building a Greener Future Together: Learning by Doing

Beyond the institutional agenda, Xarxa FP took part in Building a Greener Future Together, an international event putting sustainability, innovation and the green transition at the heart of vocational education. More than 50 students from Xarxa FP member institutions, including such as Ajuntament d’Alcoi, Tolouse Métropole, MBO Amersfoort, 1st Vocational School of Patras, Stad Leuven, Mercantec and Herningsholm, joined the gathering to collaborate across borders, share perspectives and tackle real-world challenges through practical workshops and creative activities.

The programme focused on three key areas:

  • Sustainable Construction and Materials: exploring greener building solutions and discovering the potential of straw as a sustainable construction material.
  • Sustainable Food and Natural Resources: getting hands-on with climate-friendly food systems by preparing a meal using sustainable and wild ingredients.
  • Technology, Wellbeing and Social Responsibility: exploring how technology can support people’s wellbeing and contribute to a more sustainable society.

The experience went beyond the workshops. Inspiring talks, international teamwork, student-led project presentations and cultural activities created space for new connections, fresh ideas and peer-to-peer learning. The Viborg gathering showed how international cooperation can turn shared challenges into meaningful learning opportunities. By bringing together VET institutions, educators and students, the event strengthened connections across the Xarxa FP network while encouraging the exchange of good practices and innovative approaches.

From sustainable construction to responsible food systems and technology for wellbeing, the activities highlighted the important role of vocational education in preparing learners and future professionals for a rapidly changing world. Through initiatives like these, Xarxa FP continues to strengthen its European dimension and champion a more innovative, sustainable and interconnected VET community.

Our thanks to Mercantec and Asmildkloster Agricultural College for hosting these activities and bringing the Xarxa FP community together in Viborg!
